The Lesotho Highlands Power Project was established in 2009 following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the Government of Lesotho and a South African developer.
The Wind Project would consist of several wind farms of varying capacities, located in several districts of the country. The combination of the pumped storage facilities with wind power is to ensure a stable and predictable supply of electricity.
The project will include an installed power capacity of 4 000MW of pumped storage facilities, up to 6 000MW of wind power and a further 80MW of hydropower.
